How do I access and download EBSCOhost eBooks?

Answer

Step 0: No special software is required to access and/or read EBSCO ebooks online. If you plan to download the entire ebook, we recommend installing the application "Adobe Digital Editions" before you begin. Download links for the software, as well as an instruction manual, can be found at the page https://www.adobe.com/solutions/ebook/digital-editions/download.html

Step 1: Go to the McGraw-Page Library homepage and type in the eBook or relevant topic you are interested in to the main search box. Click on the green magnifying glass button to advance.

The McGraw-Page Library homepage. The "Basic Search" box has typed in it the phrase "Machine learning."

Step 2: In the results for your search, find the eBook you are interested in accessing and click on the "view eBook" button.

The results page for the library search "machine learning." The first search result is for an ebook entitled "Machine learning approaches to bioinformatics." At the bottom of the book record is a highlighted button with the text "View eBook"

Step 3: The following page will display more information about the eBook. If you are only interested in one section of the eBook, you may find the relevant section in the table of contents at the bottom of the page and click on its title to access it directly. Otherwise, if you are interested in the whole book, click on the link titled "PDF Full Text" in the top left corner of the screen

Step 4: You should now be able to access the full eBook. If you are interested in downloading the full eBook, click the "Full download" button in the top right corner of the screen. Doing so may prompt you to Sign in/Create an account. Click on the relevant link to advance.

Step 5: On the EBSCOhost sign in page, sign in with your personal account details if you have previously made one. If you have never made an account with EBSCOhost, then you must create one. The account will be your personal account and not one that is connected to the library.

If you are creating an account for the first time, we recommend clicking the button "Sign in with Google" to do so. When it prompts you for your email address, we recommend entering your R-MC email. This will take you to a R-MC sign in page, which you must authenticate with Duo. Follow the relevant instructions to complete the creation of your EBSCOhost account.

A sign in screen for the website EBSCOhost. After the heading "sign in," there is a blue button with the Google logo and the text "Sign in with Google." Below that it says "OR" followed by username and password fields. At the bottom is a sign in button.

Step 6: After signing in with your EBSCOhost account, you should return to your eBook with a new pop-up window over it. This will give you certain options for your download, including the length of time you want to check out the item. It should automatically choose the best file options for your device. There will be a checkbox asking if you have installed Adobe Digital Editions (from Step 0). Check the box, and you will be able to download your eBook by clicking the "Full Download" button.

An eBook displayed in a web browser, but a dialog box covers the book content. The dialog shows the book title, author, and publication year as well as a section titled "eBook download details." Under this section is the setting "Borrow for:" and a dropdown box set to 180 days. Below this is a set of radio buttons entitled "Download format." The options given are "PDF" and "EPUB". The EPUB option is greyed out. Below this is a checkbox that is unchecked. The relevant text is "I have Adobe Digital Editions or equivalent installed". At the bottom right of the dialog box is a greyed-out button that says "Full Download."

Congratulations! You can now have access to your full eBook online and offline for the duration of your checkout by opening the file you downloaded in Adobe Digital Editions.
