How do I access and download ProQuest Ebook Central eBooks?

Answer

Step 0: No special software is required to access and/or read ProQuest ebooks online. If you plan to download the entire ebook, we recommend installing the application "Adobe Digital Editions" before you begin. Download links for the software, as well as an instruction manual, can be found at the page https://www.adobe.com/solutions/ebook/digital-editions/download.html

Step 1: Go to the McGraw-Page Library homepage and type in the eBook or relevant topic you are interested in to the main search box. Click on the green magnifying glass button to advance.

Step 2: In the results for your search, find the eBook you are interested in accessing and click on the "view eBook" button.

Step 3: The following page will display more information about the eBook. If you are only interested in one section of the eBook, you may find the relevant section in the table of contents at the bottom of the page and click on its title to access it directly. Links in the middle of the page provide instructions for downloading sections of the book. If you are interested in downloading the whole book, click on the purple button titled "Download Book" under the book cover on the left side of the screen.

Step 4: Once you click the "Download Book" button, you will be prompted to either Create an Account or Sign In. This login is specific to ProQuest, so your R-MC credentials will not work. If you have never logged in to ProQuest before, follow the steps to create an account. This will be a personal account for ProQuest, and is not associated with R-MC or the Library. If you have an existing account, sign in.

Step 7: Use the dropdown to select the length of your loan. You can choose between 1, 7, 14, and 21 days. The select what format you would like the book downloaded in: ether EPUB or PDF. Click the Download button and the file will download as an .acsm file, which will open in Adobe Digital Editions. You can choose not to register or sign-in to Adobe Digital Editions on your device if you do not have an Adobe login. Doing this means you won't be able to share the book across multiple devices, but you will be able to read the entire book downloaded on the device you just open it on.
