Where can I find "reserves" of class materials my professor told me are on hold or at the library?

Answer

Books, DVDs, and other physical items are placed on reserve by your professor so that everyone in the class has a chance to use them. These materials are available at the Information Desk on the first floor of the McGraw-Page Library.

You can ask for materials by your professor's name. If you'd like to search to see if materials are available for use at any given time, you can do that using this link: https://rmc.on.worldcat.org/courseReserves/landing

  • Most reserves items check out for 2 hours. Exceptions are made on a case-by-case basis (e.g., a 2.5 hour long film will check out for 3 hours).
  • Reserve items may not leave the library.
  • Portable DVD players and headphones are available for checkout to facilitate viewing DVDs.
  • Library copier/scanners can be used to make personal copies of reserve materials in compliance with current copyright guidance.

If you cannot find an item that your professor says they have placed on reserve, the library will be able to tell you if it is checked out (but not who it is checked out to). If the library has no record of an item being placed on reserve, you will need to check with your professor to confirm where it can be found.

Please note: Most digital materials (e.g., articles, streaming video) that are assigned are posted in Canvas under the course in which they are assigned.
