How do I use Canvas Studio to record voice over PowerPoint or Google slides?

Answer

If you have not downloaded and installed Canvas Studio's Screen Capture application, please follow the instructions on this FAQ.

Canvas provides an excellent tutorial here (Text | Video).

  1. While in Canvas, click the Studio link in the left-hand navigation. Wait for the Studio site to load. Once loaded, click "Record" then "Screen Capture" at the top of the page. [if you have not downloaded and installed Studio's Screen Capture, you will be asked to here. Instructions are listed on this FAQ.]
  2. Open the PowerPoint you want to add voice to.
  3. Before you start recording you will need to have the PowerPoint or Google Slides presentation active and in front of you. (Your top most window)
  4. Studio's Screen Capture app will have a dashed line box on your screen. Adjust the box to cover the PowerPoint.
  5. Click the "Record" button to begin recording the screen, mouse movement/drawing, and your voice.

The Canvas Studio tutorials are accessible at https://library.rmc.edu/teachingtoolkit/studio , which covers how to include and use videos and recorded lectures in your courses.
